Rolling Ball Sculpture
14" steel with wood base
Ronnie and Bailey picked out the colors. This one turned out rather pretty.
Programming Projects
A Blog Page of Programming Projects
I created a blog page to write up the details about various programming projects. It has details about the projects that is beyond what would fit on this page for an image. Check it out
Green and White
Rolling Ball Sculpture, Steel and Wood, 24" x 14"
Green and white rolling ball sculpture on a red base. The idea was to make it seem like a plant in a terracotta pot. Auto Emailer Interface
HTML5 JavaScript IOS-Style Webapp
The auto emailer interface is designed to look like and work like an IOS app. It works best with IOS 5 on an iPad. This is the opening screen that gives access to the message logs with user and team filtering and access to some of the server settings. This is one of the message lists. it is designed to look like a text messaging app but shows messages to and from multiple users. Nothing can be sent from here yet and this is only a view of the auto emailer log. As new message are handled, they will appear here in real time, or close to it. This configuration screen shows that this is a work in progress. the database of users ha not yet been implemented but the editing and updating of the XML configuration data works properly.
Circle Art
HTML5 JavaScript Kinetic Art
I wanted to write some HTML5 graphics code mostly from scratch to make some sort of artistic display. This is not all that artistic but can be interesting at times. I hope to add some other types of circles and actions in the future.
Planetary Defense
HTML5 and Javascript
Planetary Defense was a game I played on my Atari 1200. It was a very simple game with one diabolical twist; when defending your planet from attackers, you might accidentally shoot yourself. The game is HERE.

Linkage Simulator
Windows Program
I just wrote this linkage simulator. It allows for fairly complex linkages to be drawn and then simulated. It's fun to watch strange and complex mechanisms. An avi video can be viewed using this link: Video. The program can be downloaded using this link: Program. Linkage Simulator Windows Program This linkage has one point set to draw as the simulation runs. Linkage Simulator Windows Program This is the simple example included with the program. Examples are available using the Help menu.

2009, Steel and Wood, 29x35x8
First Advanced Welding for Art class sculpture. See it at the McKinely Art and Cultural Center in Reno starting July 12, 2010. (untitled) 2009, Steel and Wood, 29x35x8 This is a slightly off-color shot of my sculpture. The steel is "aged". The wood is laminated pine and redwood. The pattern in the steel, seen more clearly in other photos, was sand-blasted in before the bluing and rusting was done. I used a "museum" mode in the camera which resulted in the best balance of color with no flash. (untitled) 2009, Steel and Wood, 29x35x8 This is a shot with a standard flash. The metal is close to this color but a little less green in real life. It sits on our new wood floor. (untitled) 2009, Steel and Wood, 29x35x8 Another off-color shot but with good detail. I could not color-correct these without losing some color balance. (untitled) 2009, Welded Steel and Wood, 29x35 More real color but not quite enough yellow. The wall is not nearly that gray. The pattern stands out quite a bit in the photo but is not always so obvious when seen with the naked eye. (untitled) 2009, Welded Steel and Wood, 29x35 This photo gives a good indication of the shape of the sculpture not seen in other photos.
Birds IV
Steel, Paper Mache. 2009
This is our entry for the 2009 Diamond Peak dummy downhill race. Birds IV Steel, Paper Mache. 2009 This is a closeup just before heading tot he ski area of our entry for the 2009 Diamond Peak dummy downhill race. Birds IV Steel, Paper Mache. 2009 Another shot of our dummy. Birds IV Steel, Paper Mache. 2009 On the car awaiting transport and final assembly. It's too bad there is no award for the highest qualify in workmanship. We could use duct tape, clothes hangers, and spit, and do just as well in getting prizes. We didn't get anything this year.
The Great Koritzke
Wood, Steel, Motor. 1997
This would eventually have a skeleton on it and would rotate all night while the Spooky House was open. The Spooky House has closed or changed ownership due to the Great Koritzke passing away. Spooky House Enter Sign
Wood, Steel. 1997
This is a sign I made for the Spooky House (haunted house attraction). I welded the metal arm and hand and carved and painted the wood sign to simulate stone. Spooky House Enter Sign Wood, Steel. 1997 This is a sign I made for the Spooky House (haunted house attraction). The hand is made from steel rod and was patterned after my own hand. This complete picture, taken from a video tape like the rest of the images, is a bit unclear. It does show the overall shape and style of the piece.
Birds III
2008. Steel, foam, paper mache, paint.
This was our dummy for the Diamond Peak dummy downhill race in 2008. It's sitting on top of the car ready to go. Birds III 2008. Steel, foam, paper mache, paint. Greenland Paddle
Pennywise Patterns
Web site design
I designed the Pennywise Patterns web site for my sister-in-law. She intends to sell sewing patterns but does not have enough yet for a complete site. The site is complete except for the additional patterns necessary for a good business. Until someone accidentally placed an order, the site was set up to take payments through Paypal.
Yellow
Rolling Ball Sculpture
An RBS for Bailey. This one has a large rod twisted through it. For some reason, the ball rolls faster on some types of paint and slower on others. primer seems to have the least effect. This yellow made the ball very slow and this almost doesn't work. Yellow Rolling Ball Sculpture Alternate View Yellow Rolling Ball Sculpture Alternate View
Mug
Paint-your-own-pottery mug design based on a cat plate at the pottery shop, May 2005.
The cat plate at the paint-your-own-pottery shop had stripes that looked like teeth. I did this mug based on the teeth idea but kept it a bit obscure. On the real mug, the views of the different shapes make it unclear if it is really a monster.
Greenland Kayak Paddle
Hand made with custom artwork 2007
This is the second Greenland paddle I've made. The first one was a little narrow for a person my size and maybe a little short too. This one has hand-painted art in a style similar to that of Australian aboriginal art. Greenland and Australia are half a world away from each other but the paddle and the art seem to go together well. I have not seen any Greenland paddle painted with art although I have seen one with some carving on the blades.
Unnamed
Rolling Ball Sculpture Steel and Wood 2007
I'm getting more brave and trying to make larger sculpture (that I finish). This uses a 1 inch steel ball. The color is shades of grey with specks of black, white, and rust color. The base is speckled with black, white, and yellow. Unnamed Rolling Ball Sculpture Alternate View Unnamed Rolling Ball Sculpture Alternate View Unnamed Rolling Ball Sculpture Alternate View

Skiing Birds
Paper Mache Over Steel Frame 2006
Diamond peak has an annual ski competition for dummies. This dummy was used twice but the first time, it only had the one large standing bird. We didn't win any prizes. TimeLogic DeCypher
Web Interface Design
This is the TimeLogic DeCypher product web interface. This interface uses JavaScript and CSS and allows users to submit data for comparison to databases of DNA and protein information for bio-research. I created this web interface while doing software engineering at TimeLogic and at Active Motif. The site linked here is actually one of a few publicly accessible sites that use the DeCypher product. Sun Ceiling Painting
Latex Paint on Sheetrock 2004
This is the ceiling in Bailey's room. It took about a week of standing on a ladder and looking over my head to paint this. Sun Ceiling Painting Latex Paint on Sheetrock Alternate View
Plaster Pumpkin
1988
This is based on a pumpkin that was carved for a company contest. This plaster version has the original face and eyes with a plaster half-pumpkin replacing the original real pumpkin.

1990
This was original and there was no real pumpkin.
Nichols Graphics
Business Card 1986
Business card designed for Jay Nichols who helped me get graphics work before I became a computer programmer.
GME Designs
Business Card 1991
GME was lending us office space for our start-up company. They were nice enough to give me work when the funding ran out and some of that work included designing some new stationary for them.

Raftunking T-Shirt Design
Picture of the shirt back with a close-up of cave explorers and rafters 1988
This was used on T-shirts when a group of friends went on a rafting and spelunking trip. The rafting and spelunking were separate activities on the trip but the combination of the two made an interesting design.

Wire and Wood Rolling Ball Sculpture
This is my first serious attempt at making a rolling ball sculpture. I used very thin welding rod for the track so it gets damaged easily. This uses 1 inch steel balls like most of the others I've made since.
Wall Hanging
6'x3' Wood, Canvas, Steel Wire 1987
Each piece of this is separate making the hanging process a bit of a pain. This was based on a college project scaled up from a small sheet of paper to this large size.
Squid-in-a-box Business Card
1988
This is original business stationary I created for myself. The company, Squid-in-a-Box, was not real and I didn't actually use it for business. I simply had the opportunity to print some business stationary for free and needed a design for it. Squid-in-a-Box 1988 This is an original squid drawing I used for the Squid-in-a-Box stationary I made for myself.
Lyrix Preview System Brochure
Single Page Announcement 1995
This company developed a wireless portable audio preview system for record stores. I wrote the software for this company and designed all of the advertising materials and stationary.
